Practice Driving in Alaska
A) Get On the Road

For those teens younger than 18, you must hold a valid instruction permit for at least six months before applying for a provisional driver license. While practicing behind the wheel, keep the following in check:
- You must be accompanied by a passenger who is 21 years or older
- Your passenger must hold a valid driver license and have a minimum of one year driving experience
You must also clock at least 40 hours of driving experience. 10 of these practice hours must take place during challenging circumstances (inclement weather, nighttime driving, etc.).
B) Get Parent or Guardian Certification of Completion
Once you complete at least forty hours of practice time behind the wheel, you must have your parent, legal guardian or employer provide proof.
