Practice Driving in Arkansas
A) Know Your Driving Restrictions
Once you pass the test, a state police examiner will issue you an instruction permit. This learner’s permit comes with a restriction (adult in car) that starts the same day you pass. You must abide by these rules every time you get behind the wheel:
- Your instruction permit is only valid when you are accompanied by a parent, guardian or authorized licensed driver
- The above-described passenger must be at least 21 years old and occupying a seat beside you
B) Get On the Road
The restriction lasts for a minimum of 6 months before you can drive unrestricted. If you haven't been at fault in an accident or been convicted of a serious traffic violation within the preceding 6 months, you can apply for an intermediate license.
During this time, practice driving during daylight and nighttime hours as well as when the road conditions are challenging (inclement weather, rush-hour traffic, etc.).
