Take Drivers Education in New York

A) Enroll in a State-Approved Drivers Ed Course

Look online for a drivers ed course. In a state-approved program, you will learn about New York traffic laws, road signs, safe-driving practices and more.

B) Complete Drivers Education

If you passed a high school or college drivers education course, you'll receive a Driver Education Certificate (form MV-285). Valid for two years, this certificate will get you out of taking the written permit exam. The other benefit of earning this certificate comes into play when you apply for your drivers license at age 17. See Step 5 for more info.
