Get a Drivers License in Oregon
A) Make Sure You're Eligible for a Driver's License
Oregon Provisional License

You're eligible to apply if:
- You're at least 16 or 17 years old
- You've held your permit for at least six months
- You've completed the state's 50-hour driving requirement and have proof of completing a state-approved driver education course; or you've completed 100 hours of supervised driving without enrolling in drivers ed
Oregon Class C License
You may apply if you're at least 18 years old.
B) Make a Road Test Appointment With the Oregon DMV
Road tests are by appointment only. Call your local DMV office.
C) Gather Required Documents and Oregon License Fees
Bring to the road test:
- Your learner's permit
- Proof of car insurance
- Proof of full legal name
- Proof of Social Security number
- Payment for issuance fees (test fee must be paid in advance)
- A licensed driver in a legally registered vehicle
The test will be rescheduled if you arrive without all required documents.
D) Take the Road Test
Arrive at the test site at least 15 minutes early. During the road test you will be graded on:
- Driving in traffic
- Obeying traffic signals and signs
- Stopping
- Backing up
- Judging distance
- Parking
- Yielding to pedestrians
Retake Road Test
You must wait 28 days, if younger than 18. Or seven days if 18 or older.
E) Get Your Oregon Driver's License After Passing Road Test
OR Provisional License
You must obey the following driving restrictions:
First Six Months
- No passengers under 20 (family members exempt)
- No driving between midnight and 5 a.m. unless:
―Accompanied by a licensed driver 25 or older
―Driving between home and work
―Driving to and from a school function with limited transportation options
Second Six Months
- No driving with more than three non-family passengers under 20
- No driving between midnight and 5 a.m. unless:
―Accompanied by a licensed driver 25 or older
―Driving between home and work
―Driving to and from a school function with limited transportation options
NOTE: Passenger restrictions do not apply, for either time period, if accompanied by a licensed parent, guardian or driving instructor.
OR Class C License
No driving restrictions.
