Prepare for the written test by taking multiple practice exams. All questions are directly based on information found in South Carolina's Driver Manual, allowing you to accurately gauge if you're ready to test or need more time to study.
B) Gather Required Documents and South Carolina Permit Fees
Before leaving your house to take the written test, be sure to have:
- Proof of U.S. citizenship
- Proof of South Carolina residency
- Social Security card
- Car insurance information
- Payment for test and permit fees (cash, check, credit and debit cards)
C) Take the Written Permit Test
Visit any DMV office with required documents and, if younger than 18, a guardian or parent to sign your application. No appointment needed, walk-ins only. In addition to the written test, you'll also take a vision screening. Pass both you'll be awarded a South Carolina beginner's permit.
