Take Drivers Education in Washington DC
Take a Washington DC Drivers Ed Course
Washington DC's Gradual Rearing of Adult Drivers (GRAD) program does not require completion of a driver education course in order to receive a permit and/or license. This pass on drivers ed applies to all teen drivers, including just-starting 16 year olds.
However, even though driver education is not required, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) still strongly recommends enrolling in a driving class. You will learn the essentials of safe driving, including:
- Washington DC road sign identification
- District of Columbia traffic laws
- Parking (a valuable skill in DC)
- Defensive-driving tips and more
Go online to find a listing of DC driver education schools. Weigh your options and choose the drivers ed course that best fits your schedule. Because enrollment is not a requirement, you have the option of choosing between an online course or a hands-on classroom program.
