Practice Driving in Washington DC
Get On the Road

With a Washington DC learner's permit you can only drive:
- With a licensed driver in the front seat who is at least 21 years old
- Between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.
You must log 40 hours of driving time. Be sure to practice driving only during the allowed hours. Use the Certification of Eligibility for Provisional License form to track your time behind the wheel.
Get Parent or Guardian Certification
After completing 40 hours of behind-the-wheel training, have your driving supervisor (parent, guardian, tudor) sign your Certification of Eligibility for Provisional License form. You'll need to present this before your scheduled road test, along with a photocopy of your driving supervisor's license.
