Regular Learner's Permit

With a regular learner's permit you can only drive:

  • When accompanied in the front seat by another licensed driver who is at least 18 years old
  • When having your permit in your immediate possession

You must log 50 hours of driving time, including 10 hours at night. Use the Certification of Behind-the-Wheel Driving form to track your time.

Restricted Learner's Permit

With a restricted learner's permit you can only drive:

  • When accompanied in the front seat by another licensed driver who is at least 18 years old
  • When having your permit in your immediate possession

You do not have to log a specified number of supervised driving hours before applying for an "RC" (car or pick-up) license.

Get Parent or Guardian Certification

After completing 50 hours of supervised driving, have a parent or guardian sign and date your Certification of Behind-the-Wheel Driving form. You will need to present this document when applying for an intermediate permit. It will be rejected without the required signature.
